Bobby Harrell has a long track record as a representative for the people. Originally elected to the State House in 1992, he’s been tackling the tough issues that are improving the lives of his constituents ever since. Through the years, he has earned a reputation for bipartisanship and for creating legislation that builds a future of prosperity and opportunity for all South Carolinians.

Bobby has maintained a laser-beam focus on three key issues: education, tax reduction, and economic development.

In 2005, Bobby was overwhelmingly elected by SC House members to serve as Speaker. Prior to that, he served as House Majority Leader from 1997-1999 and as House Ways and Means Committee Chairman from 1999-2005.

Bobby’s political career demonstrates that he is truly a leader among leaders. His diligent work on property tax relief for homeowners, his efforts toward improving education and the opportunities for South Carolina’s children, and his sponsorship of major economic development legislation have not gone unnoticed. Numerous state and national organizations have honored him for his service.

Bobby is a man who places the highest value on family and faith. He is married to Cathy Smith Harrell and is a proud father of their two children, Trey and Charlotte. He has previously served as a deacon in his church and today the Harrell’s are active members of First Baptist Church in Charleston.

Bobby earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. A small business owner, he and his wife operate a State Farm insurance agency and Palmetto State Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceuticals repackaging company.
